Flight training · Part 61 · Denton (KDTO)
Build a training plan around your goals, schedule and budget at Sheltair, Denton Enterprise Airport. Start with a $1,000 credited training deposit, then pay for aircraft and instruction as used. No club membership or monthly dues are required to train.
Your training plan
Your goals shape the plan. Discuss recurring availability, your instructor plan, budget and intended flying with the team before committing to a pace.
Review aircraft and instructor calendars, your travel time and the frequency you can sustain. Slots are subject to actual availability.
Aircraft rates include fuel; flight and ground instruction are separate. Your $1,000 deposit is credited, not an extra charge on top of training.
An instructor reviews your experience, medical eligibility, aircraft limitations and certificate requirements, including any transition between the J170 and SR20.
Why train here
Review aircraft-specific equipment, a Sheltair home base and an instructor plan suited to your goals and actual availability.
Quality aircraft
Train in a glass-panel Cirrus SR20-G2 with Avidyne Entegra and a DFC 100 autopilot, or build hours affordably in the Jabiru J170 light sport. Every rate is a wet rate published from the same record members book against — fuel included, instruction billed separately.
Top-tier FBO
Brief in the pilot lounge at Sheltair FBO, Denton Enterprise Airport. Pilot amenities, planning space and fuel service support your visit to this towered field north of DFW. Plan your travel around local traffic.
Approved CFIs
Instruction is delivered under Part 61 by A4-approved independent contractor CFIs — credential-checked, insured, and current on our aircraft and procedures. The club invoices their time on your statement and pays them directly, so you never chase a second invoice.
Two ways to fly
Start with training or proficiency work, then consider continuing club flying. Independent rental is for certificated pilots after membership approval and aircraft checkout; availability and eligibility apply.
Students and rated pilots working with an A4-approved CFI.
Learn to fly, add a rating, or get current again.
$1,000 credited deposit to start, then aircraft + instruction billed as you fly. No membership, no dues.
Certificated pilots who want to book and fly on their own.
Self-serve access to the fleet at published wet rates.
$500 one-time buy-in plus $100/mo dues (or $1,000 prepaid for the year).

Curriculum
Our syllabi come from the A4-02 Training Course Outline. Open a rating to see the stages, the individual lessons and the regulation each course is built on.
A structured Part 61 course taking a student from no experience to the Private Pilot practical test, organized in three stages — Pre-Solo, Cross-Country and Test Preparation — each ending in a stage check flown with a pilot other than your instructor.
3 stages · 28 lessons · Rev 1.2
A Part 61 instrument rating course flown in the SR20, emphasizing single-pilot IFR discipline, avionics management and the judgment to decline or divert.
3 stages · 12 lessons · Rev 1.2
A Part 61 commercial course for instrument-rated private pilots, built around the §61.129 aeronautical experience grid — including the required complex or technically advanced airplane time — and finished to Commercial ACS tolerance in the SR20.
3 stages · 18 lessons · Rev 1.0
An eight-lesson transition for pilots new to the SR20, ending in a checkout evaluation that grants club rental privileges.
1 stage · 8 lessons · Rev 1.2
A single introductory lesson — $200, left seat, hands on the controls — designed to give an honest, structured experience of flight training and a clear decision about enrolling. It is a real lesson credited toward the Private Pilot course, not a sightseeing ride.
1 stage · 1 lesson · Rev 1.2
An instrument proficiency check conducted to the current Instrument ACS for pilots who have fallen outside recency, flown in the club's IFR fleet.
1 stage · 2 lessons · Rev 1.2
At least one hour of ground and one hour of flight training, tailored to the aircraft you fly and the flying you actually do.
1 stage · 2 lessons · Rev 1.2
Inside the portal
Members and students get scheduling, digital worksheets, logbook tracking and billing in one place. Here is what it looks like.

Every syllabus, stage and worksheet in one place, with your next lesson surfaced at the top.

Progress through your rating, currency, upcoming reservations and instructor notes on one screen.

Book aircraft and instructors by the hour, subscribe to a calendar feed, and print the dispatch sheet.
The portal
Everything a student needs — scheduling, worksheets, dispatch, logbook and billing — runs on your phone at the aircraft.
One scheduling grid for aircraft and instructors, with a calendar feed that lands each reservation — tail number, CFI, location — in Google, Apple or Outlook.
Each lesson has an interactive worksheet your CFI grades in the portal, with stage checks and instructor notes attached to the record.
Your hours are audited continuously against the Part 61 requirements for the rating you are working toward, so nothing is discovered the week of the checkride.
Aircraft time and instruction on a single statement. Pay by card or authorize autopay with your own per-invoice limit.

How training starts
Start with a discovery flight, discuss a plan with the team, and fund training with a credited $1,000 deposit. Aircraft and instruction are then billed as used.
J170 $165 by phone or SR20 $200 online. Both include 0.8 flight hour with instruction plus briefing, preflight and debrief. Your CFI reviews applicable training credit.
Submit the short online form, complete the identity and FAA registry review, and sign one digital agreement package.
The deposit opens your enrollment and is applied to aircraft and instruction as you fly, then billed hourly from there.
Work the syllabus stage by stage with your CFI, with progress, currency and experience tracked in the portal.
