Sport pilot training in Texas.

Explore recreational flying in the Jabiru J170 at Sheltair, Denton Enterprise Airport. Start with a discovery flight, then review your eligibility, goals and aircraft-specific training plan with an instructor. Training needs no club joining fee or monthly dues.

A first flight in the J170.

Both include 0.8 flight hour with instruction, briefing, preflight and debrief. Actual availability applies. Your instructor will confirm which flights and training requirements the aircraft can support, along with endorsements and individual medical eligibility.

Current rules

Your privileges and eligibility come first.

Aircraft-specific suitability

Sport privileges depend on current FAA rules, endorsements and the aircraft’s limitations. Review the J170 operating handbook and current equipment with an instructor, who will confirm which flights and training requirements the aircraft can support.

Passenger privileges

Sport-pilot privileges permit one passenger subject to current FAA requirements, endorsements and aircraft limitations. Aircraft eligibility is not defined only by the old LSA label.

Medical eligibility

Driver’s-license eligibility and BasicMed are conditional on individual medical history and current FAA rules. A denied medical cannot simply be bypassed. Discuss your circumstances with an instructor and an appropriate medical professional.

Minimums versus progress

The sport-airplane minimum is 20 flight hours, including required dual and solo experience. Minimums are not completion averages or a personal quote; training depends on progress and current requirements.

Your training plan

Choose the flying you want to do.

Explore sport

Consider sport training for suitable recreational flying. The J170 has the lower aircraft rate in the A4 fleet; an instructor reviews whether this path suits your goals and eligibility.

Explore private

Discuss private-pilot privileges and aircraft choices with an instructor. Private training has additional experience requirements, including night and instrument-reference work, and a practical test.

Review credit individually

An authorized instructor reviews logged experience against each requirement. Do not assume all sport training automatically fulfills private requirements or the J170 alone covers every night, instrument-reference or practical-test requirement.

First flight, by phone

Jabiru J170 discovery — $165, call to schedule. SR20 discovery — $200, booked through the existing online picker. Both include 0.8 flight hour with instruction plus briefing, preflight and debrief. Actual availability applies.

Billing

One invoice. The club handles all of it.

A4 handles all billing, including instruction. Aircraft time at the published wet rate, instruction and membership dues arrive on a single club invoice — you never settle up separately with your CFI, and instructors never chase students for payment. The club pays approved CFIs directly.
